Cotton gauze is a soft, lightweight, and breathable fabric made from loosely woven layers of cotton, often finished with a natural crinkle texture. Unlike traditional quilting cotton, gauze has more drape and movement, making it ideal for apparel, baby items, and cozy projects rather than precise piecing. It’s especially loved for swaddles, garments, scarves, and soft quilts where comfort and softness are the focus.

For best results, pre-wash before sewing to allow for natural shrinkage and to enhance the texture. Use a sharp needle and handle edges gently, as gauze can fray more easily than standard quilting cotton. With proper care, cotton gauze becomes even softer over time and brings a relaxed, modern feel to handmade projects.
